Do you spend your shopping days pricing guys when you should be pricing Corn Flakes?
It adds at least an hour
on to my shopping time – especially if I’m shopping with a friend. We rate
guys on a scale from 1 to 10, or if it’s a bus then our scale takes an
alphabetic format A to J (so we can give ratings without being too obvious)
Ugly guys and drop dead
georgeous guys are boring – as they’re either a perfect 10 or a big fat
zero. It’s the average guys that offer the biggest challenge – someone who
could be a 9 to me could be a 2 to other players of this strange sad game.
At
least I used to think it was strange and sad until I found an equivilant
online.. ‘Am I Hot or Not’ is an internet site that basically is this game
– except rather than do it on the top of the number 25A bus you do it on your
computer.
There are 1000’s of
pictures of men and women on the site, each picture comes with a scale in the
style of a thermometer which allows you to vote for each person on the site,
with 1 being the bottom of the barrel and 10 the cream of the crop.
You can choose to get a
listing of either men or women or you can get a mix. It’s amazing how
addictive this site is – its also interesting to see other peoples opinions
– someone who you might consider ‘your ideal man’ may have only scored an
average rating of 2.1 – and this is decided by a voting panel of 3,000 people.
The truly vain amongst
us could indeed send in our own pictures to see what the voyeurs of the internet
really think. Wouldn’t it be crushing to find out that 1000’s of people on
the information superhighway have rallied together to vote and decide that you
are pig ugly. Of course the site has its uses – you could get a photo of a
future boyfriend/girlfriend – submit it to the site and get a 2nd
opinion.
Where
did such a bizarre idea for a website come from? The site owner was in a bar one
evening, saw someone he thought someone was a perfect 10, his friend disagreed.
Beer + comment = idea for website. The venture is now a huge success with
1,000’s of visitors daily – it even offers to print up a t-shirt with your
picture and rating.
I
get the impression tho’ from the hilarity of some of the poses that many of
the pictures are sent in as a joke – either that or some of the people love
humiliating themselves a little too much. I’ll expect to see a few Irish faces
on it now that it has gotten some exposure on Gay-Ireland.com or maybe a few
more votes but be warned its strangely addictive.
