We
gave ‘bloke’ Gary, 23 from Dublin certain products from the
‘bloke’ range and gave him just 1 hour to get dolled up.
Gary
tried out the bloke facial scrub first, aptly titled ‘Bits’.
‘I’ve
tried facial scrubs before, not very nice facial scrubs tho – some
made from rice that just felt like sand, I’ve never been too big a fan
of them. ‘Bits’ was a bit surprising, it was more delicate on my
skin than I would have expected, it went on easy – a lot like liquid
soap and came off just as easy, no 20 rinses needed.
My nose is definitely a fan, I was left with zero blackheads
(yuk) – I wont have to pick up any ponds nose strips this weekend.
Right…
onto the shaving oil – I always have to put on some jump around music
when shaving – tonights choice was ‘Pet Sounds’ by the Beach Boys
– 30 seconds into ‘Wouldn’t it be nice’ and off I go…
following the instructions from the box – wet face <check>, put
3-5 drops on hands <check> apply to shaving area <check>
I
found the sensation a bit odd – its more gloopy than shaving foam –
infact it sort of feels like theres nothing there – to be sure I added
a few more drops to my pre-shaven chin – just incase. A little bit of
singing and I began to shave, already I can see one advantage of using
shaving oils – foam dries up quiet easily, so if you’re like me and
you emmm like singing in the bathroom then you really need to be quick
and shave before the foam dries up, however oil doesn’t seem to have
this problem. I managed to get all the way thru Track 3 on the beach
boys album and still had a perfect lather to finish off shaving (much to
the annoyance of my neighbours)
After
shaving I went back to my little bloke box, I had a choice of
‘Moisture Cream’ and ‘Moisture Gel’ – I went for the Cream, as
its packaging boasted that it was light and scent free, suitable for all
skin types and will sink into my skin without trace – even real blokes
moisturise is the catchphrase on the bottle.. good enough for me.
Squeezing,
Squeezing and nothing’s coming out, a quick re-read of the
instructions tells me that I need to pierce top of nozzle with a safety
pin. I’m about to pose a question to all blokes out there – how many
of you bring a safety pin into the shower with you? I don’t anyway, so
I had to go hunting round the house with a towel wrapped around my waist
looking for a sewing kit – naturally I couldn’t find one, I did find
my old scouting swiss army knife – problem solved!!
A
dab of cream later and I was feeling like a nice spongey marshmellow
just waiting to be dipped into a mug of hot chocolate, ok bad analogy.
I
hop into the shower and begin to scrub <graphic content deleted>,
first thing I noticed about the shampoo was the slippy bottle, very hard
to hold onto – images of those prison movies spring to mind where the
lads have great fun dropping soap etc.. I used my dentures to screw the
cap off. I got tons of lather from just a dollop of shampoo, I was
impressed with the nice distinctive smell – no idea what the smell is
but I’m glad they print ‘do not eat’ on some of their bottles
because I was tempted!!

I’de
normally use a wash and go type shampoo – meaning I don’t normally
use a separate conditioner, however one conditioning later and I was
singing its praises, my hair was left vibrant and tangle free, all I
needed was a summer meadow to run thru so I could wave my hair in the
spring breeze.
I
haven’t mentioned the packaging yet!! Each Bloke product comes in a
fancy black and orange box, which then fits into its own little black
case – very stylish it is too. Bloke seems to be marketed quiet well,
it has the added advantage of being available online, which should solve
a few gift headaches when it comes to Christmas!!
Now
my taxi arrives in 5 minutes can I go get dressed?’
