Our service is provided on a voluntary basis and as such we rely on people donating their time and energy to Switchboard.  With this in mind we recruit new volunteers at least once per year.  Volunteers are expected to do one duty per week and one weekend per month.  A duty is normally one shift which run from 20:00 to 22:00 Sunday to Friday and 15:30 to 18:00.  Our volunteers come from all walks of life and go through a series of training nights, followed by a probation period before taking calls themselves.  Existing volunteers provide support and encouragement for new members and regular get togethers help build a great sense of team work.  If you are interested in joining Switchboard or just to find out more, please contact 'The Director', GSD, Carmichael House, North Brunswick Street, Dublin 2.
