The Blue
Diamonds are a lesbian soccer team from Galway, they are currently recruiting
new members for training sessions beginning over the next few weeks. The team
has been together for over two years.
Formed in
1998 by a few local women, a few practice sessions later, they were on the train
to Cork to play against another gay team.
The team now host “The Diamonds Challenge Cup” – something which is slowly
turning into one of the best events of the calender year – Its hard to believe
that in year one, only two teams took part(The Blue Diamonds from Galway and
Phoenix from Dublin).
This
years competition is scheduled for the October Bank Holiday Weekend.
Last
year, the team had approx 20 members, they hope to better this number this year.

meetings are usually displayed on posters in both Stranos and Zulus for further details of training times
meetings etc. The
next meeting is scheduled for March 28th in Stranos.
This
year the team are entering in for the Galway City Summer League, at present
there are 15 teams in the game, matches will run from May thru to September.
