Review

I am not sure if GTI’s and crotch rockets go with the queer scene in Ireland but that’s what this film is about as its name suggests.  Fast, very fast cars and motorbikes make up this 100 minute film which features the up and coming (over hyped) Hollywood actor Vin Diesel who pays the part of street king racer Dominic Toretto.  Yes, Diesel is somewhat attractive, unlike his co-star Paul Walker who plays the part of the undercover white cop, sent to root out the truck hi-jackers who are plaguing that part of California.

Diesel (Sic) appeals to the mixed race, gym bunny crowd of fast car aficionados in the USA but me thinks, he won’t have the same affect over this side of the Atlantic. Opinion was very divided in the USA when it was released.  The boy racer brigade loved it of course, as did the rap music and tattoo crowd, but they ignored the acting and the story line.

The story line was pathetic if not non-existent. There was no ending, to anybody’s satisfaction. The leader of the gang was given the chance to escape. The ending of the drag race with the Ferrari was cut for some reason.

Basically we have an undercover cop looking for brownie points by infiltrating the street racing gangs, looking for ‘respect’ from Toretto by doing some hairy driving, respect which he gained,………. then falling for his byrd, ‘Mia’, played by Jordan Brewster. Also given prominence was Michelle Rodriguez who many of you will know I admire from the ‘Girl Fight’ film reviewed on this site. One hellofa Bitch!.  Brian’s (Paul Walker) relation ship provided the only decent catch phrase of the film……….Dom; “you break her heart and I’ll break your neck”

Well break her neck he didn’t, there wasn’t even a romp scene! But he did admit to her that he was a cop and that he really wanted to save Dom’s life from the Truck drivers and the Chinese gang.  So we had the usual chase……! Did it ever occur to any truck driver to stop?

If you are into that type of music, (Rap etc) then go a decent cinema like Liffey Valley where the sound vibrations was pumped out at ya. Possibly only the Pod would have been louder!!

So now you know what to do with your Honda Civic on Dame Street after the clubs shut.. “Live your life a quarter of a mile at a time, nothing else matters, for those ten seconds, you are free” until you run into my ten minute car!!

If you know your twin carbs from your quiche then check this film out.
