Take one movie, insert one joke about a guy having sex with an apple pie, leave to stand for 35 minutes, fill with various jokes of a similar sexual nature and you have a surprise Hollywood blockbuster on your hands.
For second helpings it might not be wise to follow the same recipe but the chefs behind
American Pie 2 have been lazy in the Hollywood kitchen. This time the cringe worthy sex joke substitutes the apple pie for a tube of glue. The 'sex on the internet gag' is replaced by a radio broadcast.... and that’s about it, everything else revolves around two sub-plot jokes.
The cast of the original are reunited for this half-baked sequel. Set one year after the first movie on the last day of fresher’s year in college, plans are underway to organize the most memorable summer on record. Unfortunately this turns out to be more memorable for the cast and not for the audience, we are immediately gate crashed into a yawn fest with some of the least interesting people you would ever want to share a party with.
The male half of the cast are extremely worried with the lack of sex they've had all year, so renting a summer house by the lake is the ideal way of picking up chicks. Oz is the odd one out, who decides to stay faithful to his overseas girlfriend which leads to some unfunny phone sex exchange. Most of the gags in the movie are completely see thru, a trumpet shoved up Jim's backside is so unfunny and transparent that you wonder why it wasn't edited out.
If you haven’t seen the trailer then you might raise a chuckle or two, the lesbian and glue sub-plots while silly are worth seeing, if only for conversation makers when
American Pie 3 comes out, but otherwise the trailer shows anything worth seeing, so take my advice and spend your £5.50 entrance fee in the kylemore on some real apple pie, it'll be a lot more satisfying.
