The Strokes - Is this it?

Review

Finally a commercial rock and roll band to like that your parents will hate. You wont hear them on 98fm for another two years, there wont be any wonderwalls or stadium tours for three years.

Blessed with the hype of oasis, the soul of the velvet underground and the energy of the sex pistols, The Strokes are a band currently riding the "next big thing" Merry Go-round, everyone is singing their praises, it wont be long before that Smash Hits are offering Strokes lunchbox stickers. I have been bitten by the Strokes, i'm doubtful that they have the mass appeal that is expected of them, the day I see my mum in a Strokes T-shirt is the day I take up Line Dancing.

Maybe a few years ago the band would have been headlining Slane, for now tho they are stuck in the wrong time,
this album should have been in competition with 'Nevermind the Bollox' rather than 'Let's dance' by 'Five' (who incidentily were beaten this week by The Strokes in the UK album charts)

Only 37 minutes long but you'll be sucked in to it by the first 37 seconds - every song is as good as each other, every song makes you jump, click, hum along to it. As soon as it stops, you'll be hitting the start button again - an instant grower. Every song is too short, but thats the beauty of it, you dont grow tired of it before you should, you're left gagging for more, imagining what the next verse should soundlike.

This is a vision of what rock and roll used to be, fingers crossed for a revival. Tho, as the album title puts it - 'this is it' - this is "the best Strokes album in the world... ever"
Like previous bands from the NME next big thing club, this could be their best work. They no doubt will be bigger but they won't be as good so my advice is to enjoy them now,
See them while they're still a small band, wear their T-Shirt while no one else knows who they are and buy their album while its only £9.99 in tower records (with a free badge)(how punk rock is that?)
