Mobile phones have revolutionised the way we interact, one of the most surprising features to catch on is text messaging, it’s amazing how much you can say and how deep you can get in 160 characters (the maximum length of a message). .

But just why are people opting to send messages rather than dialing directly..??

1/ it's cheaper and quicker than a phone call,
2/ you can do it on a bus without people knowing what you are saying
3/ When you've nothing to say, its not worth phoning but a simple text message is an ideal way to remind someone that you’re thinking of them
4/ you can cheat in exams and pup quiz's
5/ you can send text messages thru the net in work while you're meant to be
typing up a report for your boss.

How do I send text messages thru the web?

There are several sites that allow you to send text messages
the best ones we found were

1/ Eircell (because it's fast)
Unfortunatly you need to be an eircell customer you need a username and password
which allows you to send 30 messages a month, (which isnt enough if you're a major socialite like me)
the messages are sent instantly to your phone (altho you should send them to other people.. not yourself)

2/ Quios (because it's free)
Quios is the world's largest mobile community where you can send and receive text messages through any mobile phone for freeee
they also offer a rake of services such as sending personalized messages, receiving stock quotes, weather reports, and other time sensitive information
and again its all free.

3/ MTN
MTN have been around for a long time, they offer a similar service to the above but I find them slow
the messages are prone to delays, sometimes arriving three or four days after they were sent, not very good
if you want an urgent message sent!! plus they only allow esat messages, no eircell ones

Should I text or call after a date?

Assuming the date went well, it’s quite acceptable to send a text message the following day, keep it short, pleasant and to the point, it may not even need a reply. Don’t be too explicit, as it’s not classy, and you also don’t know for sure that you've been given the right number – your date may have been drunk and given you the wrong number or worse.. your date may have been sober and given you the wrong number.
