Letter from Muffin
Dear Gay Ireland

I have logged onto your site today and read with great sadness about the closure of Muffins ladies nite at Molloys Bar in Christchurch.

My name is Carol and I was one of the promoters of Muffins along with pub owner Bernard Molloy. In June of 2002, I made the decision to leave Muffins for personal reasons and because I felt that Muffins was no longer a viable venue. The numbers of women attending had slackened considerably despite our best efforts to promote the venue and offer various theme nights. Many new venues opened at the time attracting our clients but are now also closed.

After my departure, the future of Muffins was left in the hands of Bernard Molloy and it would seem that he also decided not to continue with the venue. When that became apparent I requested that the listing for Muffins was removed from the publications and websites it had been featured in, yet we have had some criticism levelled at us through the letters page in GCN by a woman from the UK who was in Dublin for the weekend for still being listed but not open.

I would like to point out that several times I contacted GCN to pull the listing from their paper and website but they failed to do so for a very long time.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the women who did attend Muffins and gave us their support, made our acquaintance and gave us a lot of fun and great memories. I would also like to thank the staff of Molloys Bar, the Muffins gang who made running the venue a lot smoother and the lady who help kickstart it all (You know who you are).

Regards

Carol

Film extras wanted
A new film by the name of Timbuktu is currently being shot. It will be directed by Alan Gilsenan and will star Karl Geary.

It is a road trip movie and starting in Dublin, follows the adventure of a guy and girl who go to algeria to find his lover / her brother who they fear has been kidnapped by the GIA.

We need to film a scene in Dublin in a sex club - where Deecy (the guy) is working as a transvestite prostitute. It is a very colourful club where he is working and we need to replicate this and fill it with extras.

We would like to have a broad spectrum of characters in this club, from rubber clad S&M, to glamorous transvestites to fire eaters and dancers. If you could help me in any way contact these prople I would be very grateful. We are planning to shoot this scene on the 12th & 13th March in Dublin. My telephone number is 679 0427 and is people could contact us to come and have their photograph taken etc that would be great.

We do not have much money to make this film as is the nature of film making on Dublin but we willporvide some incentive.
Anything you could do to help would be much appreciated.

Best Wishes
Ciara Mc Gowan

Belfast Drag Queen to host BBC show
Popular Drag Queen Titti Von Tramp, host of many nights at the Kremlin in Belfast is to host a show on BBC primetime. The show will show Titti giving Kat Slater (from Eastenders) a makeover.

The programme (due to air in March) is not the first time that titti has hit the airwaves, she was recently seen alongside Anne Robinson on the Weakest Link, unfortunatly the questions didnt suit on the day and Titti found herself the weakest link being the first to get voted off. Not to worry, the readers at Gay-Ireland.com love her and actually voted her the number one queen in Belfast in our end of year polls.

St Patricks Day NYC 2002
St Patricks Day NYC 2002

We have been asked to post the following message relating to Patricks Day in New York.
---->

Hey Everyone,

It`s that time of year again, "when were all off to 5th ave in the
green, in the green..." oh wait, except for the Irish lgbt.

This year we have a new mayor, Mr Bloomberg who stated during his
election campaign that he would not be
marching in the St.pats day parade. He has now decided that he is going
to march in this bigoted parade to honor all
the victims and the rescue workers of september the 11th?

We need your help in asking the mayor not to march in the parade,
please
send letters to Mr Bloomberg , Irish Echo,
Irish voice and the Irish media in Ireland. I have enclosed a sample
letter that you can use to send to Mayor
Bloomberg or you can do your own. It is really important the Echo &
Voice recieve letters from Irish people living in
Ireland Supporting the lgbt community, most of the Irish Americans are
ultra conservative and view Ireland the way
they left it 60 years ago (I`m sure this is not news to any of ye).
Thanks for the support,
Irish Queers
grainne close <grainne_close@hotmail.com>

Mayor Michael Bloomberg
City Hall
New York, NY 10007

Dear Mayor Bloomberg:

Your decision to march in the St. Patrick`s day parade- an overtly
exclusionary, bigoted parade-not only blantly
contradicts a capaign promise, but aligns you squarely with the
unrepentant homophobia of the parade organizers.

The st.Patrick`s Day parade has clearly and deliberately defined
itself
as a venue for marchers who do not support
civil rights; who are willing to invoke the right of religion to place
themselves out of reach of civil rights law; to exclude
lesbian, gay and transgendered people, as in the past they excluded
women, Irish community members resisting
British occupation, people of color and people in wheelchairs. The
presence of police and firefighters does not
change this fact. Similarly, your own presence does not promote
inclusion "from the inside", but simply lends the
strength of the mayor`s office to the exclusion.

There are many ways to honor the victims and the rescue workers of
September 11th, and there are many reasons,
particularly now, to stand strong for civil rights. We hope you will
choose a venue that honors all people affected by
9/11- queers, people of color, immigrants and others whose civil rights
are under attack right now-and which does not
serve to pit the NYPD and FDNY against the people of New York City.

Sincerely,

IRISH ECHO: Editor- Tom Connelly: tconnelly@irshecho.com, 309 5th ave,
New York, NY, 10016-6548

IRISH VOICE: letters sent to letters@irishvoice.com, letters to the
Editor 432 Park Ave. South, suite 1503 , New York,
NY 10016.

When you send a letter to any of the above could you please let us
know.

Thanks
Looking forward to hearing from you all.
