I Should Be So Lucky
Kylie cant seem to put a foot wrong these days, whatever she touches turns to gold,
London theatre writer and director David Knox has noticed this and has turned the
songs of everyones favorite pop princess into a hit musical.
The show uses 25 songs from Kylies career to tell the story of a young gay man on a journey to
find his mr. right, the producers are staying fairly quiet about which songs actually got thru to the final production.
However the arrival of kylies latest album provided a few headaches behind the scenes and of
course a small rewrite was needed to add in recent chart toppers such as 'Cant get you out of my head'.
The songs are all sung live by the cast themselves altho not necessarily in their traditional way.
Some songs are full length, some just a chorus. Some have become duets or trios
and some up-tempo songs are ballads, however none of the lyrics have been changed.
The show has aired in Melbourne, New York and Toronto to rave reviews and is heading
to London's westend in 2002. It joins the growing collection of musicals based on modern
pop culture artists, The works of Abba, the Pet Shop Boys, Queen and Boy George have found
themselves on stage at London's Westend.
Altho some critics have grown tired of the pop-song musical, which they say is similar to movies
being made about 1970s TV shows such as Charlie's Angels or The Brady Bunch. John McKie, editor
of Smash Hits magazine hates the idea and beleives that recyling someone elses hits is just lazy.
Minogue's management are aware of the production and show producers hold rights to the
pop star's songs, however they can use her image for promotion, instead they cleverly use
a scantly clad hunk wrapped in a microphone cable in a pose similar to the one on her
latest album 'Fever'.
Kylie releases her new single 'in your eyes' in February
